As you may have seen on my list of things to do before I leave NYC I wanted to skate in Bryant Park. The rink is the only one with free admission that I know of in Manhattan and it’s right in the middle of the city, surrounded by skyscrapers and the beautiful New York Public Library. This past week Daily Candy Deals had a great offer that I HAD to buy: 2 Fast Passes (reserved rink time aka no waiting in line), Skate Rentals, Bag Check and 2 Hot Chocolates for $30. What would normal cost $60 was half off. I saw it as a great date-night with James for Valentines Day so I bought it ASAP.

James and I on the ice (note: cameras aren't allowed we found out after snapping this shot, so don't bring yours on the ice)

We went on Saturday night when it was crazy busy. It was a combination of couples, pre-teens, teens and little kids. It made for an interesting night to say the least. It was a combination of people falling, show-off skaters doing the crip walk on skates and little kids with no control. It was a great time though. We didn’t stay too long since it was so crowded and we were starving.  The hot chocolate was delicious, you should get some if you go for sure. Also, the bag check is really convenient. You get a green or blue bag (the difference is size), put your stuff in it and take it to the drop off spot. It comfortably fits all of your stuff, more so than a locker would for sure. We were on the ice right before it was zamboni-ed so it was a bit choppy, but the size of the rink is good for being in the middle of the city. (It is definitely larger than the rink at Rockefeller Center.)

I was glad to check something off of my bucket list and the deal from Daily Candy made it easier, and faster. James and I had fun, navigating the ice and the hazards (read: other skaters). We also found the approximate spot where he proposed in October, which was cute and a great way to bring some love into our night. Check it out if you have time. The reservation system is handy but will cost you. I would guess that it is less crowded during the week, so check it out when you have a chance, there are only 2 weeks left to go this season.
